Canberra has hot, and sometimes very dry summers.  Winters are very cold with heavy fog and frequent frosts, with sometimes snow in the city. Surrounding areas get annual snowfall through winter and snow capped mountains.

Canberra has the third lowest annual rainfall of all the Capital cities and is spread fairly evenly over the seasons, with late spring bringing the highest rainfall. Thunderstorms can occur between September and April, and may occur at any time during the day.
