The Carillon at Lake Burley was given as a gift by Britain to Canberra on it's 50th anniversary & placed in the Commonwealth Park. Lake Burley Griffin is the centerpiece of Canberra & offers views over the lake and central Canberra. The National Carillon has 55 bells.
The lake was created by the construction of a dam in 1987. Lake Tuggeranong foreshore is parkland, with swimming, fishing, wind-surfing and non-motorised boating activities on the lake, with a 6.7 kilometre bicycle path surrounding the lake.
