Byron Bay is a coastal town. 772km north of Sydney & 165km south of Brisbane, in south eastern New South Wales. Byron Bay is famous for its relaxed way of life. It is a former whaling station that is now a very popular holiday resort renowned for its magnificent surfing beaches. It is has no sky scrapers, traffic lights or parking meters. Go scuba diving, sky diving, surfing, swimming, hiking, whale watching or just sit down and relax!

The uniqueness of the people who reside here reflects in the galleries, boutiques and shops with New Age offerings.

Julian Rocks is located approximately 3 Kilometres offshore via boat. It is one of Australia's top dive spots providing shelter and food for more than 500 tropical and temperate fish species.

The grey nurse sharks come to Julian Rocks during the winter months. In spring the blue tang (blue body and yellow tail) visit. And in summer the big eyed trevally appear. During mid-summer the leopard sharks can be seen most of the time. From summer to autumn the manta rays cruise the waters. And at different times throughout the year you can see wobbegong sharks, turtles, cuttlefish, moray eels, giant guitar fish, shovel nose rays and white spotted eagle rays. Not to forget the magnificent colourful sponges, tunicates and corals. From May till September the Humpback whales come past Byron Bay and can easily be spotted from the boat. And keep an eye out for the dolphins!

Note: Under the Fisheries and Oyster Farms Regulation - disturbing, injuring or removal of all forms of marine fauna within a 500 metre radius of the reserve is prohibited.

Arakwal National Park -The park stretches south along Tallow Beach from Cape Byron for nearly two kilometres consisting of one hundred and eighty three hectares. The Arakwal Aboriginal people are the acknowledged custodians of the Byron Bay area and retain a strong role and interest in the maintenance, protection and management of Aboriginal cultural values.

Byron Writers Festival - [August] The festival is designed to "amuse, challenge and stimulate," giving readers a rare opportunity to get together with their favourite writers. Program covers fiction, non-fiction, theatre and film writing, poetry and prose. Staged at the Byron Bay Beach Club; increasing in popularity each year.
