St Kilda forward Jack Higgins has been hit with a three-match suspension for the dangerous tackle that concussed Aliir Aliir in the Saints’ loss to Port Adelaide. Higgins tackled the bigger Aliir to ground during the second quarter at the Adelaide Oval, with the defender’s head hitting the ground as he attempted to kick. Aliir was taken off and quickly substituted out of the game with concussion, and will miss the Power’s Showdown blockbuster against Adelaide under the AFL’s concussion protocols. I don’t think at any stage was he intending to dump him until Aliir put himself in some weird position kicking the ball,” David King told SEN’s Crunch Time earlier on Saturday. Gerard Whateley added: “I feel huge sympathy for Higgins in this scenario. There are a whole lot of things that conspire against him in a tackle that wasn’t going to end like that, ends like that.” Should the ban stand, Higgins will miss the next three weeks. Nick Daicos has this incredible ability to put his team on his back and say ‘come with me here, lads’ and we saw it on full display on Anzac Day against the Bombers. With the Pies starring down the barrel of defeat after conceding six of the first seven goals, Collingwood chipped away at Essendon’s lead courtesy of some colossal efforts from Daicos. Daicos’ second quarter was the definition of stuffing the stat sheet. He had nine touches, one goal, five kicks as well as big metres gained numbers.
