Balingup

Balingup is not only a place of scenic beauty, it also has the Bibbulmun Track passing through it & is the venue for annual festivals such as the Small Farm Field Day (late April) and Medieval Carnivale (August).

Balingup is famous for its scenery, rolling hills, spring blossoms, orchards, spectacular night skies and a great community. The region produces a wide variety of vegetables alongside vineyards and orchards protected by native forests and tree plantations. Dairy cows have been replaced by beef cattle in the Donnybrook – Balingup Shire.

Greenbushes, near Balingup, is the first metal producing mine in WA & is the world's largest Tantalum producer. It was established in 1888 and is still in production.

Balingup takes its name from Balingup Pool, located on the Balingup Brook which flows through the town. It was first recorded by a surveyor in 1850, and apparently derived from the name of a Noongar warrior, Balingan. The town was gazetted 1898.

Balingup district draws thousands of visitors to festivals and events in the area each year. Visitors enjoy the beautiful scenery and friendly atmosphere of Balingup all year round.
