If you’re looking for some of the best surfers in the world, look no further than New South …
Surfing is more than just a sport - it's a way of life. And if there is one place in the world that has embraced surfing culture like no other, it's Australia.
With over 35,000 kilometres of coastline offering perfect waves for all skill levels, it's no surprise that surfers flock to Australia from all over the globe. From the world-famous breaks of Bondi Beach and Bells Beach, to the hidden gems off remote coastal towns, Australia offers up some of the best surfing experiences in the world. So, grab your board shorts and join me as we explore the world of surfing down under.
The first thing to know about surfing in Australia is that it's a year-round activity. Different regions have their peak seasons - for example, the southern states have the best waves during autumn and winter, while the Northern Territory is prime during the dry season. But if you want to avoid crowds, head to the coast off-season. You might have to don a wetsuit, but it's worth it for an uncrowded lineup.
If you're new to surfing, don't worry – there are plenty of beginner-friendly waves. Bondi Beach in Sydney is famous for its soft breaks and has plenty of surf schools offering lessons. Further down the coast, Noosa Heads in Queensland is nicknamed "Australia's Longboard Capital" for its consistently gentle waves ideal for longboarding.
For more experienced surfers, Bells Beach in Victoria is a must-visit. The location of the world-renowned Rip Curl Pro event, Bells is known for its big swells and long rides. Meanwhile, the legendary Gold Coast is home to a range of breaks – Burleigh Heads is great for fast, hollow waves while Snapper Rocks offers a long, peeling right-hand point break.
